Have you recently started a business? It can be a great time and liberating if you have previously worked for a company up until this point. But one of the key things you need to think about is marketing. And what kind of budget will you have for marketing? What logo will your company have? And how will this help you to draw in customers?
Here’s everything you need to know about logo variations and logo design.
What is a Logo?
It is worth considering what a logo is before proceeding to create one for your business. Logo is an abbreviation of logotype and comes from the Greek word ‘logos’ or word and ‘typos’ meaning imprint. It is a combination of an image and a word.
Logos on coins go back thousands of years. They are supposed to convey what your company stands for and the name of the company in one small and simplistic image. The simpler the logo and the more obvious it is the better. This is what you need to consider when designing your company logo.
What is Your Logo For?
This is one of the most important questions you can ask yourself. What is your logo trying to represent? What are the values of the company you are trying to convey? What kind of messages is your company looking to project to people who are seeing your brand and corporate identity for the first time?
If you need some help with this then consider hiring a branding expert to help you develop your logo in conjunction with your brand. They can give you some initial ideas to think about and then help you hunt for a graphic designer to create a logo design for you.
Also be sure to check that your logo doesn’t breach plagiarism standards, even the 2020 Olympic Games logo has become embroiled in a scandal involving plagiarism.
Different Variations Of Logo
So how many different variations of the logo should you have? This depends on where you intend to use your logo and how you intend to use it. Generally, it is good to have a few versions:
A Small Logo
This is for use on things such as Twitter and Facebook profile pictures. It will appear as a tiny square or circle unless the user decides to click on it.
A small logo cannot have too much detail on it as it will appear cluttered and disordered. It must be very simple.
Black and White
A black and white logo is important for black and white documents that the company puts out which can save you some money such as invoices and letters. But just setting the printer settings to black and white with the color logo can make the logo look dirty and the contrast might not be right.
Instead, ask your graphic designer to make you a specific logo in just black and white, perhaps with different shades of black and white for use in official documents.
Logo Variations: Think Carefully
If you are designing a logo be sure to think carefully about your core brand values and where the logo is going to be used such as on black and white documents and on social media profile pictures.
