As title sponsor of the British MotoGP, Hertz have designed ‘Beyond the Track’; an interactive guide to five of the top MotoGP circuit locations in Europe. The site is packed with helpful, authentic content and genuinely useful key facts about each of the places.
Five of the most well-known racing tracks in the world are featured on the guide, which include: Silverstone in southern England, Le Mans in northern France, Sachsenring in eastern Germany, Mugello in Tuscany and Valencia in Spain.
The guide incorporates different things to do whilst visiting the tracks as well as the area’s best kept secret. You can learn about the traditional dishes of that area and a key fact about each of the circuits. For instance, at Silverstone the fastest ever MotoGP lap was held by two completely different men during the qualifying rounds in August 2013. Not only is this interesting, it become more thought-provoking when you learn that these records were set only minutes apart.
Being a mobile first responsive site ensures that the content is laid out in an optimal easy to read format whatever the device. The site is consistent in how it is laid out as well as the information displayed on it. Using CSS animations adds an extra layer of interactivity to the piece whilst also remaining an optimised quick to load site. Both the text and the images used are appropriate and relevant to the target audience.
The layout combines a stylised google map with javascript interactions to display the relevant content for each location. Visually the site is very appealing, incorporating the well-known Hertz colour scheme throughout. Whilst this is attractive, it also allows users to know that this interactive guide has been created by the car rental company.
It is presented in such a way that even the least tech-savvy person would be able to navigate around it. With simple mouse-clicks you can move around the guide and find the racing circuit you are wanting to visit.
Although the simple to use and offers users a lot of information, it would have been good for it to incorporate more locations which people may choose to visit or offer more options about what can be done in each of the five places that have been mentioned.
The overall experience of the Beyond the Track guide encompasses high quality content, good visual display and functionality. The guide offers visitors to theses iconic racing tracks a little extra, which could help turn their visit to the location into something amazing.
